Around 0.48 percent of the extremely poor population have moved up a levelJakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar stated that extreme poverty in Indonesia declined in 2025.

“Thank God, the extreme poverty in our country successfully decreased from 1.26 percent in March 2024 to 0.78 percent in September 2025. Around 0.48 percent of the extremely poor population have moved up a level,” Muhaimin said during a ministerial meeting here on Monday.

He added this achievement underscores the government’s commitment to accelerate the eradication of extreme poverty through stronger coordination across ministries, agencies, and regional governments.

This measure is part of implementing President Prabowo Subianto’s brief as well as Presidential Instruction Number 8 of 2025 on Poverty Alleviation and the Elimination of Extreme Poverty.

The instruction mandates the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment to lead and coordinate efforts to achieve the target.

A total of 47 ministries and agencies, along with all regional governments, are involved in the assignment under the presidential instruction.

However, Muhaimin acknowledged that several challenges in extreme poverty alleviation still need to be addressed promptly.

“More than 774,000 families in the lowest decile group (or the poorest group) have not yet been reached by the programme, especially in regions such as Kulonprogo, Garut, Bogor, Cirebon, and Cianjur,” he mentioned.

In addition, 8.1 percent of families have not received any social assistance, while 60.2 percent of families in the lowest decile have only received one to two government aid programmes.

The Indonesian government is working to eradicate extreme poverty by 2026 and reduce the national poverty rate to 5 percent by 2029.

This effort involves cross-ministerial collaboration, utilizing the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS) to accurately identify eligible beneficiaries, and ensuring that social assistance programmes are effectively targeted.
