Muhadjir Effendy Visits KPK After Requesting Postponement of Hajj Case Examination

On Monday (18/05/2026), Muhadjir Effendy was observed arriving at the KPK building at approximately 17:54 WIB and entered the interrogation room at around 18:03 WIB. Dressed in a brown batik shirt, Muhadjorkan offered little comment regarding his examination.

The KPK had previously stated earlier that day that Muhadjir had requested a rescheduling of the examination related to the Hajj quota corruption case. He was summoned in his capacity as the interim Minister of Religious Affairs in 2022.

“In the continuation of the investigation into the Hajj quota case, investigators scheduled an examination of witness MHJ in his capacity as the interim Minister of Religious Affairs in 2022,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Monday. “The individual has confirmed and requested a postponement of the examination. Investigators will reschedule the session.”

The KPK has named four suspects in this Hajj corruption case: former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ), former Special Staff to the Minister Ishfah Abidal Azis, also known as Gus Alex (IAA), the Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour) Ismail Adham (ISM), and the Chairperson of the Kesthuri Association, Asrul Azis Taba (ASR).

The KPK suspects that Ismail and Asrul provided funds to Yaqut, the former Minister, via an intermediary, namely the former Special Staff, Gus Alex. It is alleged that Ismail provided USD 30,000 to Gus Alex, and also handed over USD 5,000 to the former Director General of Hajj and Umrah Services at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in 2024, Hilman Latief (HL).

The KPK estimates that the state losses in this case amount to IDR 622 billion, based on calculations provided by the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK).
