Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has questioned Muhadjir Effendy, Special Adviser to the President on Hajj, to deepen investigations into statements regarding the 2022 additional quota within the probe into alleged Hajj quota corruption.

“Regarding the 2022 additional Hajj quota,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Monday. Budi explained that the KPK requested information from Muhadjir Effendy because he served as the Acting Minister of Religious Affairs in 2022.

He noted that the former minister’s testimony is essential to the investigation of the Hajj quota case. “It is certainly needed to see how the processes or mechanisms that should have been implemented were carried out, particularly regarding the distribution when the additional Hajj quota was received,” he said.

Addressing the number of questions asked, Muhadjir stated, “There were not many. I only served as acting minister for 20 days, from 30 June to 19 July.”

On the same occasion, he explained why he attended the summons abruptly, despite having previously requested a postponement until Monday. “I had actually submitted a request for postponement, but because of the news from all of you, I felt uncomfortable delaying it. I did not want to create the impression that I was avoiding anything. So, I requested to meet now,” he explained.

Previously, on 9 August 2025, the KPK commenced an investigation into the alleged corruption of the Indonesian Hajj quota for 2023-2024. Meanwhile, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, the owner of the Hajj organiser Maktour, has not been named a suspect, despite being subject to a travel ban.

The KPK subsequently received the results of an audit from the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK RI) on 27 February 2026, which indicated that state financial losses in the case reached Rp622 billion. Subsequently, on 12 March 2026, the KPK detained Yaqut at the KPK Red and White Building Detention Centre, followed by the detention of Ishfah on 17 March 2026. The KPK briefly changed Yaqut’s status to house arrest on 19 March 2026 following a request from his family, but returned him to the KPK detention centre on 24 March 2026.
