Muhadjir Effendy Decides to Proceed with KPK Examination After Initial Request for Postponement
JAKARTA — The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, admitted that he had initially requested a postponement of his examination by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as a witness in the alleged corruption case regarding the 2023-2024 Hajj quota. However, Muhadjir chose to fulfil the examination at the KPK following widespread media coverage regarding his situation.
“In truth, I had submitted a request for a postponement, but because there was news from all of you (the media), I felt uncomfortable. I didn’t want there to be an impression that I was avoiding the process, so I requested to meet now,” Muhadjir stated at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Monday (18/5/2026).
He clarified that he is being examined in his capacity as the ad interim Minister of Religious Affairs in 2022. When questioned regarding the former Director General of Hajj and Umrah Organistion, Hilman Latief, Muhadjier stated he had no comments to make, saying, “There is none, none. It is all fine, fine, fine.”
Previously, Muhadjir Effendy arrived at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Monday to respond to the summons. He was scheduled for questioning regarding his role as the ad interim Minister of Religious Affairs in 2022 in relation to the suspected corruption of the 2023-2024 Hajj quota. He was seen wearing a brown batik shirt, black trousers, and a songkok, carrying brown documents.
Initially, Muhadjir had requested to delay the examination that was meant to take place on Monday. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that the subject had requested a postponement and that investigators would reschedule the session, noting that all witness testimonies are essential to the ongoing investigation process.
