Muhadjir Effendy Calls for Enhanced Hajj Service Preparedness

During the hajj season, unexpected incidents always occur. Therefore, I request that committees, officials, and the ministry remain alert to such events. Surabaya (ANTARA) - Presidential Special Advisor on Hajj, Muhadjir Effendy, has called for enhanced preparedness in hajj services following a traffic accident involving a group of Indonesian prospective pilgrims in Saudi Arabia some time ago. “During the hajj season, there are always incidents beyond expectations. Therefore, I request that committees, officials, and the ministry remain alert to such events,” said Muhadjir at Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya (Umsura), East Java, on Thursday. He stressed the importance of quick responses if incidents occur in the field. According to him, anticipatory steps have indeed been taken by officials and the ministry, but the speed of handling must continue to be improved for the safety and comfort of the pilgrims. Muhadjir also highlighted the condition of some pilgrims in Mecca who are accommodated about 13 kilometres from the centre of worship activities. He requested special attention, particularly in providing transportation for pilgrims in those locations. In addition, he appreciated the policy of grouping pilgrims now using only two syarikat (hajj service providers in Saudi Arabia). That policy is seen as able to minimise the potential for pilgrims to be separated from their groups, as happened in the previous year. Muhadjir also positively assessed the addition of fast-track services (quick immigration document checks) now available from Makassar, South Sulawesi. “If possible, make everything fast-track, so there are no additional procedures upon arrival because everything has been prepared here,” he said. He added that cooperation between the Indonesian Government and the Saudi Arabian Government through the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is running very well and cooperatively in organising the hajj pilgrimage.
