Mugging During Sahur in Bekasi Goes Viral as Husband Rams Car to Save Wife

BEKASI, KOMPAS.com — A video showing an alleged attempt to mug a woman in Bekasi Selatan district, Bekasi City, has circulated on social media. In the footage, a man believed to be the victim’s husband is seen driving his car into the attackers to thwart the crime. The video was posted by Instagram account @gobekasi.official and quickly sparked discussion online.

According to circulating narratives, the victim was robbed as she left her home at sahur time near her housing complex. Unbeknownst to the victim, her husband had been following behind in a car. Bekasi Selatan Police Chief Commissioner Dedi Herdiana confirmed the incident. He said it happened on Tuesday (3/3/2026) at around 03:00 local time while the victim was riding a motorcycle.

‘Meanwhile, her husband was driving a car on the way home from his workplace toward their home in Jatiasih,’ Dedi told Kompas.com on Friday (6/3/2026). Dedi said that during the journey, the victim was approached by three perpetrators riding one motorcycle. One of the attackers then boxed in the victim with the aim of snatching her motorcycle. Seeing the incident in the rear-view mirror, the husband immediately turned the car around and rammed into the attackers. ‘The car struck one of the attackers, causing him to fall, while the other two fled,’ he explained.

‘The two fleeing attackers are still being sought. Officers have conducted chase operations to several locations, but up to now they have not been found,’ Dedi said.
