Mugger Arrested While Pushing a Motorbike in North Jakarta, Allegedly Scouting for Targets
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Port Police Resort of Tanjung Priok AKP Pandu Prabawa said the two suspects are repeat offenders in similar cases. The arrest began from patrols conducted by his men. ‘Starting from routine patrol activities at crime hotspots, police managed to prevent two men who planned to commit armed robbery using a machete and a sickle,’ he said on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
During the patrol, police saw two suspicious individuals pushing a motorcycle. They were stopped and searched.
‘The officers’ suspicions were confirmed after search. From MA, police found a 50-centimetre machete kept in a cloth sling bag. Meanwhile from BR, police recovered a 50-centimetre sickle or arit tucked at the front left of his waist,’ he explained.
Based on checks of data and identities, they had previously committed theft with violence or mugging. It is known that the weapons carried by the suspects were prepared for use to target victims.
‘After questioning, it was found that the sharp weapons carried by the two suspects were prepared to carry out street crime actions such as mugging, extortion, or intimidation. However, before the plan could be implemented, both were secured by the Port Police of Tanjung Priok,’ he added.
The two suspects together with the evidence were taken to the police station for further investigation. Both suspects were charged under Article 307 paragraph 1 of the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP), with a maximum punishment of seven years’ imprisonment.
