Lebaran homecoming is an annual tradition eagerly anticipated by Indonesian society. Every Hari Raya Idul Fitri, millions of people travel to their hometowns to gather with family.
This large-scale mobility typically occurs through various modes of transport, including private vehicles that utilise the toll road network.
To facilitate travel and ease travel costs for those returning home, the government and toll road operators are again introducing a toll rate discount programme during the 2026 Lebaran homecoming period. This policy is expected to reduce people’s travel expenses whilst helping to regulate traffic flow more evenly.
The toll rate reductions apply to dozens of toll routes on Java and Sumatra with varying discount amounts. On most toll routes, the rate reduction reaches up to 30 per cent. However, the discount application schedule is not the same across each toll route as it is adjusted according to homecoming traffic patterns and traffic conditions.
“Homecoming during Lebaran 2026 is now more economical with toll rate discounts of 30 per cent,” stated the official statement from BPJT (Badan Pengusahaan Jalan Tol – Toll Road Authority) of the Ministry of Public Works.
Overall, this toll rate discount programme applies during approximately 12 March to 22 March 2026. However, the main discount period of 30 per cent on many toll routes runs from 15 to 16 March 2026.
Toll Rate Discount Schedule on Sumatra Island
Several toll routes on Sumatra Island also provide rate reductions during the Lebaran homecoming period. Below is the list of toll routes and their implementation schedules.
- Bakauheni–Terbanggi Besar Toll Road
Discount applies from Sunday 15 March 2026 at 07:00 WIB until Tuesday 17 March 2026 at 07:00 WIB. The rate reduction applies in one direction towards Kayu Agung Toll Gate.
- Terbanggi Besar–Pematang Panggang–Kayu Agung Toll Road
Discount applies in both directions from 15 March 2026 at 07:00 WIB until 17 March 2026 at 07:00 WIB.
- Kayu Agung–Palembang Toll Road
From Saturday 14 March 2026 at 07:00 WIB until Sunday 15 March 2026 at 07:00 WIB, a 10 per cent discount is applied. Subsequently, from Sunday 15 March 2026 at 07:00 WIB until Tuesday 17 March 2026 at 07:00 WIB, the discount increases to 30 per cent for the direction towards Kramasan Toll Gate.
