Mudik Traffic Increases by 28 Percent, Garut and Tasikmalaya Police Implement One-Way System
Mudik traffic on national arterial routes in Garut Regency, West Java, heading east towards Central Java has increased significantly. The Traffic Unit has implemented the one-way system 24 times. The volume of vehicles heading towards Tasikmalaya has risen by 28 percent from the previous day.
The Head of Traffic Police at Garut Regency Police, AKP Luky Martono, stated that during the 1447 Hijriah Lebaran mudik, vehicle volumes have seen a significant increase, leading the Traffic Unit to apply the one-way system 24 times as a discretionary police measure taken tentatively to divert traffic from Bandung towards Tasikmalaya. The increase in vehicle flow from West Java to Central Java via Limbangan to Malangbong has been notable.
“We are implementing this traffic engineering because the flow of vehicles from Bandung through Garut towards Tasikmalaya has increased, and we are applying the one-way system situationally to smooth the traffic flow,” he said on Thursday (19/3/2026).
According to him, the surge in vehicle traffic has prompted the police to carry out traffic engineering in the form of a one-way system to ease congestion at several prone points in the Garut area. This is because the volume of vehicles through Limbangan and Malangbong has increased significantly to 30,408 vehicles.
“The Garut Regency Police personnel have implemented the one-way system 20 times on the Limbangan and Malangbong routes, and 4 times from Kadungora to Leles. However, the steps taken are efforts to maintain the smooth flow of mudik traffic and provide comfort when passing through the Garut area,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Head of Traffic Police at Tasikmalaya City Police, AKP Riki Kustiawan, said that mudik traffic on national arterial routes has experienced an increase in vehicle volume from Bandung through Garut towards Tasikmalaya. Officers in the field are carrying out regulations and implementing the one-way system at the Pamoyanan junction and the upper Gentong ring road.
“Mudik traffic from Bandung towards Tasikmalaya shows an increase in vehicle volume, and the police ranks immediately implement the one-way system from Pamoyanan to the Gentong ring road to clear the vehicles. The increase in mudik traffic will continue to rise due to two waves on H-3 and H-2 of Lebaran,” he explained. (H-4)
