Mudik Traffic from Jatijajar Terminal Heaviest to Yogyakarta
The head of Jatijajar Terminal in Depok, West Java, Rafik Hidayat, stated that Eid holiday transport at Jatijajar Terminal has experienced an increase since Saturday, 14 March 2026. He predicted that the peak of the 1447 Hijri Eid mudik traffic would be Wednesday, 18 March 2026.
Rafik reported that passenger numbers increased by approximately 100 per cent last Saturday. The number of passengers at Jatijajar Terminal the day before was 300 people, then rose to 600–700 passengers on the previous Saturday.
“The total departures per day are approximately 150 to 200 bus fleets. For yesterday’s passengers, on Monday there were 1,600 passengers per day,” he said on Tuesday, 17 March 2026. “For the peak itself, it is predicted to occur on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.”
He continued, if the average number of passengers is 1,000 people per day since the increase in passenger numbers on Friday, 13 March 2026, then over five days there have already been 5,000 mudik travellers departing from Jatijajar Terminal.
“It seems that this increase is because it had already reached 1,600 passengers on Monday, so the peak should be tomorrow (Wednesday). Therefore, there is likely to be a further increase in passengers,” he said.
Observing the significant increase in passenger numbers, Rafik estimated that mudik travellers departing from Jatijajar Terminal to their hometowns would increase by up to 5 per cent during the 2026 Eid holiday compared with last year.
“On average per year there are approximately 18,000 to 20,000 people for Eid transport,” he said. “If there is an increase, it might be around 2 to 5 per cent.”
He stated that some bus operators have already anticipated the increase in passengers by adding to their fleets. Terminal management is still in the process of compiling data on fleet additions at Jatijajar Terminal. “As it stands, we do not have a shortage of buses,” he said.
Rafik added that the most popular destination for mudik travellers departing from Jatijajar Terminal is Yogyakarta. Then came Central Java and Purwokerto. “Yogyakarta is indeed a favourite destination.”
