Mudik to Jakarta Programme Could Boost Economy in Tourism Sector
Residents who choose to remain in Jakarta during Eid 2026 are seen as opening up opportunities for tourism movement in the capital. Around 4.2 million residents have decided not to go home this year.
The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) assesses that this situation can become an opportunity to improve the economy through the tourism sector.
Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, explained that ASITA (Indonesian Travel and Tour Agency Association) has a Reverse Flow Tourism programme. This programme is hoped to attract people from outside the region to holiday in Jakarta after the holiday.
“After the holiday, there is usually still time off, around Jakarta or even from further away, it is hoped they will come to Jakarta for a holiday,” she clarified.
In addition, the DKI Provincial Government has also launched the “Mudik to Jakarta” package through the Jakarta Experience Board.
“We are collaborating, we already launched it together with the Governor a few weeks ago, Mudik to Jakarta. There are packages for it,” she said.
According to Made, this initiative will have a positive impact on Jakarta’s economy. However, the exact figures for the economic impact will still be calculated.
“For the economic impact, the circulation of money, it will be calculated first. We will coordinate with the Ministry of Transportation, BPS (Central Statistics Agency), and other related parties, and the exact figures will be officially announced to the public later,” said Made.
Through this trend, the Ministry of Tourism is striving to strengthen Jakarta’s image as an inclusive, modern, and easily accessible urban tourism destination for all levels of society.
