Mudik Lebaran 2026 Begins with 115,384 Passengers Departing Jakarta by Train
Mudik Lebaran 2026 has commenced with PT Kereta Api Indonesia recording at least 115,384 passengers departing Jakarta during the period of 11-13 March 2026. Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Franoto Wibowo stated that the increase in passenger volume at the beginning of the Mudik Lebaran transport season demonstrates the public’s high confidence in railway transport as a mode of holiday travel.
“KAI Daop 1 Jakarta has undertaken various preparations ranging from operational aspects, railway journey safety, to enhanced customer service so that travel during the Mudik Lebaran period can proceed safely, comfortably, and on time,” said Franoto in an official statement on Friday (13 March 2026).
During the 2026 Mudik Lebaran period, KAI is providing 1,076,196 seats for long-distance train journeys from Gambir and Pasar Senen stations. The period with the highest ticket sales occurs on 11-20 March 2026 as the initial holiday exodus period, with a total of 451,219 tickets sold to date.
Several dates favoured by the public for travel include 18 March with 49,105 tickets, 19 March with 48,465 tickets, 16 March with 47,703 tickets, and 17 March with 47,556 tickets.
During the Mudik Lebaran period, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta is operating 68 regular long-distance train services per day. This is supplemented by 12 additional trains from Gambir Station, 7 additional trains from Pasar Senen Station, and 4 free motor train services.
From Pasar Senen Station, the trains in highest demand include Bengawan, Airlangga, Serayu, Kertajaya, Jayakarta, and Progo.
To support the government’s economic stimulus programme, KAI is also providing fare discounts of up to 30 per cent for commercial economy-class trains during the period of 14-29 March 2026.
Nationally, approximately 1.2 million seats are being provided, whilst specifically in the Daop 1 Jakarta region there are approximately 329,000 seats available, with around 67,000 seats still remaining.
On the eighth day before Eid 1447 Hijri, KAI Operational Region 1 Jakarta officially opened its 2026 Mudik Lebaran Command Post, which will operate from 13 March to 1 April 2026.
This command post aims to ensure the smooth operation of railway services, enhance safety, and provide optimal service to the public during the holiday exodus and return migration periods.
On the first day of the command post’s opening, Friday (13 March 2026), the volume of long-distance train passengers departing from the Daop 1 Jakarta region was recorded at 45,382 passengers.
