The Geological Agency (Bageol) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has warned the public regarding a mud eruption phenomenon in the Oro-oro Kesongo Geotourism Area, Blora, Central Java. The agency is urging residents and visitors to remain vigilant and stay away from the eruption point to avoid the risk of material ejections and hazardous gases.

Head of the Geological Agency Lana Saria stated that her team is currently gathering information on the intensity of the eruption, which resembles the Lapindo mudflow in Sidoarjo. She confirmed that a field verification will be conducted immediately to evaluate the latest geological conditions at the site.

“For the time being, residents and visitors are advised not to approach the eruption point, especially when activity is ongoing, and to follow the directions of the local government and officers,” she said on Monday (10/8/2026).

This precaution is being taken to protect the local community from potential splashes of mud material and gas content that often accompanies such mud eruptions. Based on records, the Oro-oro Kesongo area is known for its unique characteristics, featuring natural discharges of mud and gas from beneath the earth’s surface.

“In general, Oro-oro Kesongo is an area known for geological phenomena involving the release of mud and gas from the subsurface. Eruption activity can occur periodically with varying intensity,” she explained.

Currently, the agency is still monitoring the situation and cannot yet conclude the risk level of the latest activity circulating on social media. Primary data and direct physical observation are still required before a comprehensive technical evaluation can be provided.

“Regarding the danger level and the current conditions circulating on social media, we cannot draw conclusions before obtaining data and field verification results,” she added. Local government and security officers have been instructed to secure the area to ensure no residents enter the danger zone.
