MUC Sustainability Connect Becomes a Collaboration Space from Compliance to Impact
Environment Minister/Head of the Environmental Control Agency (LH/BPLH) Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat has said that collaboration is key to translating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments into tangible impact. According to him, regulatory compliance and sustainability can go hand in hand in promoting responsible business practices.
Jumhur said ESG implementation has now become an important part of corporate business strategy. ESG is not merely about meeting market expectations, but also serves as a foundation for companies that are resilient, responsible, and competitive.
“Through collaboration, ESG commitments can become tangible impacts for the environment, society, and the national economy,” Jumhur said in his opening remarks at the Road to ESG Forum MUC Sustainability Connect 1.0.
According to the Environment Minister, discussions on tax regulations can strengthen the governance aspect of companies. At the same time, mangrove planting actions represent a concrete form of environmental concern.
“The discussion on the development of tax regulations is part of efforts to strengthen corporate governance, while mangrove planting is a tangible contribution to environmental preservation and the strengthening of coastal ecosystems,” Jumhur said.
Therefore, the Environment Minister called on business actors to strengthen synergy with the government, communities, and stakeholders. He expressed hope that such collaboration would ensure ESG implementation does not stop at commitment, but produces real benefits for the environment, society, and the national economy.
Jumhur also appreciated the initiative that combines regulatory updates with concrete environmental conservation actions. According to him, this approach demonstrates that sustainability can be realised through collaboration and collective action.
MUC Consulting held MUC Sustainability Connect 1.0: From Regulatory Compliance to Sustainable Impact at Jakarta Mangrove, Angke Kapuk Nature Tourism Park, North Jakarta, on Thursday. The event, part of the Road to ESG Forum series, connected tax regulation updates with corporate governance strengthening and concrete environmental action.
Under the theme From Regulatory Compliance to Sustainable Impact, the event provided the business community with an understanding of tax regulation developments, particularly Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 44 of 2026 concerning taxpayer authorisation. The regulatory update was positioned as part of the governance aspect, while mangrove planting served as a contribution to the environmental aspect.
In the event, MUC Consulting also brought together various stakeholders and community partners. This involvement was part of strengthening the social aspect of ESG implementation.
The agenda continued with a Tax Regulation Update session themed “Strengthening Corporate Governance Through Tax Authorisation Legality in Accordance with PMK 44/2026”. The session featured Directorate General of Taxes functional officials Eddy Triono, Ahmad Rif’an, and Saptaka Adhi.
Eddy explained that taxpayers may appoint an authorised representative with a special power of attorney to exercise rights and fulfil tax obligations. The power of attorney must clearly state the scope of authority granted.
Ahmad Rif’an added that clarity on the scope of authorisation must be accompanied by adequate competence on the part of the appointed party. This is necessary to maintain integrity and professionalism in the exercise of tax rights and obligations. “The purpose of the rule (regarding competence) is to maintain integrity and professionalism,” Rif’an explained.
The sustainability perspective was then presented by Executive Director of United Nations Global Compact Network Indonesia (IGCN) Andi P. Rahim. He stressed that sustainability should not be understood merely as tree-planting activities. “Sustainability is not just about planting trees,” Andi said.
According to him, sustainability principles need to be embedded in various corporate activities, including financial management and business decision-making. He assessed that sustainable finance plays a role in determining the direction of the economy and supporting a sustainable economic system.
After receiving regulatory updates and ESG perspectives, participants took part in a collaborative ESG action in the form of a mangrove tour and mangrove planting. A total of 270 mangrove seedlings were planted together in the Jakarta Mangrove area. The activity was supported by United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Network Indonesia and Jakarta Mangrove as strategic partners, as well as Yayasan Teman Hebat Berkarya and Bersih Bersih Lemari as community partners. The series of activities represented MUC Consulting’s effort to connect regulatory compliance with sustainable impact through collaboration and concrete action.
