Muba Regency Government Awards Prosecutors for Uncovering PT SMB Corruption

Palembang (ANTARA) — The Government of Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, has presented an award to the Investigation Team of the Muba District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) for their success and dedication in investigating and resolving the corruption case involving PT SMB, valued at Rp127.27 billion.
The award was presented directly by the Regent of Muba, M. Toha, to the Head of the Muba Kejari Investigation Team, Hendy, accompanied by investigation team members during a press conference held at the South Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) in Palembang on Tuesday.
Hendy, after receiving the award, expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the attention and support given by the Musi Banyuasin Regency Government in handling the case.
He explained that the handling of the suspected corruption case involving PT SMB was carried out meticulously to ensure the legal enforcement process proceeded in accordance with regulations, whilst also recovering the losses incurred by the region.
According to Hendy, the successful handling of this case would not have been possible without good synergy and collaboration between law enforcement officials and the regional government in supporting strengthened governance that is free from corruption, collusion and nepotism (KKN).
The presentation of the award complements the handling of the PT SMB case, which has drawn public attention in South Sumatra as it concerns the safeguarding of regional assets and finances.
Meanwhile, in the Rp127.27 billion PT SMB corruption case, state financial recovery was achieved through mediation and negotiation by State Attorney Prosecutors (JPN) together with the heirs of the late defendant H. Abdul Halim Ali, who served as President Director of PT SMB.
The state losses comprised the value of state land assets in the Conservation and Other Use Areas (APL) totalling Rp2.55 billion, unpaid Land and Building Acquisition Duty (BPHTB) amounting to Rp201.58 million, and illegal gains from unlicensed plantation activities totalling Rp124.51 billion.
The heirs and management of PT SMB have agreed to settle the entire compensation obligation in instalments over a maximum period of 12 months.
The first instalment was agreed at Rp10.5 billion, with the remaining obligation to be paid in monthly instalments at the end of each working month, at a minimum of Rp9.69 billion per instalment, until the full amount is repaid.
