Musi Banyuasin Regency (Muba) has affirmed its commitment to developing a sustainable rubber sector by hosting the Rubber Jurisdiction Dialogue themed "Promoting Sustainable Rubber in Indonesia through Traceability and Farmer Inclusion" on Wednesday (9/7/2025).

The event was held at the Muba Regency Government Auditorium and was initiated by the Partnership for Indonesia Sustainable Agriculture (PISAgro), with full support from the Muba Plantation Service.

The dialogue aimed to facilitate technical discussions and knowledge exchange among stakeholders in the rubber sector — ranging from local government, industry players and farmers to development partners. The outcomes of the forum are expected to serve as strategic recommendations for policies at the regency, provincial and national levels.

Muba Deputy Regent Kyai Rohman expressed his appreciation for the trust placed in Muba as host. He considered the forum vital in addressing challenges faced by farmers, particularly regarding low selling prices and the need for transparent and sustainable markets.

"I hope this discussion does not end as mere discourse, but truly produces concrete steps for the welfare of farmers," he said.

PISAgro Executive Director Insan Safaat described Muba as a rubber production centre with significant potential worthy of becoming a national sustainability model. He emphasised that multi-stakeholder collaboration is key to addressing global challenges in agricultural supply chains, especially amid growing demands for environmentally friendly products.

PISAgro Rubber Working Group Chairman Agung Nugroho added that the dialogue would strengthen rubber downstream processing in Muba, whilst opening broader market opportunities for smallholder farmers through certification and product traceability.

Meanwhile, Head of the Muba Plantation Service Ahkmad Toyibir explained that global markets, particularly the European Union, now require deforestation-free products through the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). This demands collaboration between the government, offtaker companies and other development partners.

"Through the support of PISAgro and the LTKL consortium, we are optimistic that the issuance of Cultivation Registration Certificates (STDB) for rubber farmers in Muba can be maximised. The STDB is important as proof that farmers' plantations do not originate from deforested areas," he explained.
