Muara Enim Regent's Nephew Named Suspect in Education Procurement Bribery Scandal
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has disclosed the role of Adi Triyadi, the nephew of Muara Enim Regent Edison, in a bribery case surrounding the procurement of smart boards at the Education and Culture Office. The KPK stated that Adi acted as an intermediary for the bribe money destined for Regent Edison. This was announced by KPK Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein during a press conference at the KPK’s Merah Putih building in South Jakarta on Tuesday. Taufik explained that Adi handed over bribe proceeds from a private party to Regent Edison, which were channelled through Abi Nurwardani, the Secretary of the Muara Enim Education and Culture Office. Taufik stated that the bribe money was initially given by the private party to Abi and stored in a nominee account. Subsequently, Abi withdrew 5 per cent of the bribe sum in cash, amounting to Rp500 million from the private party, intended as Regent Edison’s ‘share’. The money was then handed by Abi to a private individual named Radiansa. Radiansa later delivered the money to Adi to be given to Regent Edison. ‘The handover of money to Edison was carried out by cash withdrawal from the nominees’ accounts through Radiansa to Adi, who is Edison’s confidant and relative,’ Taufik revealed. He added that the money received was used for Edison’s personal needs. Taufik said the Rp500 million was a payment from Cory Erin Hardi, a marketing executive at PT Millenium Solusi Abadi who has also been named a suspect. Cory gave the money to Abi in order to ‘maintain good relations’. He added that there was intent and purpose for the private party to maintain good future relations with the local government, so they could win subsequent local projects. Besides Regent Edison, the money was also distributed to the Head of Department, the Commitment Making Officer, and the Treasurer, who received 3 per cent and 1 per cent respectively. The four parties named as suspects in this case are Muara Enim Regent Edison, 2026 Education and Culture Office Secretary Abi Nurwardani, the Regent’s nephew Adi Triyadi, and PT Millenium Solusi Abadi marketing executive Cory Erin Hardi. The KPK has charged Edison, Abi, and Adi under Article 12 letter a and/or Article 12 letter b and/or Article 12B of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption. Cory, as the private party, has been charged under Article 605 letter a and/or Article 605 letter b of Law Number 1 of 2026. The KPK has detained the suspects for an initial 20-day period from 9 to 28 June 2026 at the KPK detention centre.
