Muara Enim Regent Under Investigation at South Sumatra Regional Police Following KPK Sting Operation

The Regent of Muara Enim, South Sumatra, H Edison, is undergoing examination at the South Sumatra Regional Police after being caught in a sting operation (OTT) by the Corruption Eradification Commission (KPK).

“Regarding the regent, he is one of the parties detained in the South Sumatra region. An investigation is currently being conducted at the South Sumatra Regional Police,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the agency’s office in Jakarta on Monday night (8/6).

The KPK conducted the sting operation in Jakarta and South Sumatra between 7-8 June 2026, resulting in the arrest of ten individuals. Five of those arrested are from the Muara Enim Regency Government, including the regent, while the remaining five are from the private sector.

In addition to those being held at the South Sumatra Regional Police, several of the individuals caught in the operation have already been taken to the KPK’s Dwiwarna building. The sting operation is linked to allegations of bribes received by state officials within the Muara Enim Regency Government from private parties concerning procurement projects.

“An exposé will be conducted tonight. We will see the presentation, the construction of the case, the roles of the parties allegedly involved, and the specific articles of the law that will be applied,” said Budi.

Evidence seized during the operation includes hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash.
