Muara Enim Regent Still Under Investigation by KPK in South Sumatra, to be Brought to Jakarta Tomorrow
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is still conducting examinations of the Regent of Muara Enim, Edison, who was caught in a sting operation (OTT). The interrogation is currently taking place at the South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel).
“Regarding the Regent, he is one of the parties detained within the South Sumatra region. Currently, examinations are being conducted at the South Sumatra Regional Police,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists at the KPK Building, South Jakarta, on Monday (8/6/2026).
There are plans to transport Edison to Jakarta tomorrow. Budi has not yet confirmed the exact time Edison will arrive at the KPK headquarters.
“The plan is for tomorrow. What is certain is that as of tonight, there is no confirmed plan to bring the Regent to the KPK Merah Putih Building. We will provide further updates after the exposure process takes place tonight,” he stated.
Several other parties are also undergoing intensive questioning at the South Sumatra Regional Police, while some have already been transferred to the KPK.
“Currently, several individuals are undergoing intensive examination during the investigation stage at the South Sumatra Regional Police. Some of them have already been secured at the K4 office. We will provide the details of the case later,” he revealed.
As of now, the KPK has not disclosed the identities of all the detained parties, as they are still conducting a series of examinations. The group detained includes five individuals from the Muara Enim Regency Government, including Regent Edison, and five others from the private sector.
The individuals caught in the sting operation currently hold the status of witnesses under examination. The KPK has 24 hours to officially announce the legal status of those detained.
