The Regent of Muara Enim, Edison, attended an anti-corruption event focused on the Goods and Services Procurement (PBJ) sector alongside the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) only five days before being caught in a sting operation (OTT). This was revealed through posts on the official Instagram account @humaspimpinan_muaraenim. The anti-corruption event was organised by the South Sumatra Provincial Government in collaboration with the KPK at the Bina Praja Auditorium, Palembang, on Thursday, 4 June 2026.

In the post, Edison expressed his support for the South Sumatra Provincial Government’s efforts to strengthen corruption prevention within the procurement sector. The official account stated, ‘The Regent urges all Muara Enim Regency officials to be proactive in understanding regulations, maintaining transparency, avoiding mark-ups, and strictly rejecting fictitious projects to ensure clean and accountable governance.’

Shortly thereafter, Edison was apprehended in a KPK sting operation. The KPK suspects the Muara Enim Regent of involvement in bribery transactions, alleging that he and his subordinates received bribes from private parties. ‘Regarding the suspected receipt of funds by state officials from private parties,’ said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists on Monday, 8 June 2026.

He added that the KPK arrested 10 individuals across Jakarta and South Sumatra, including Edison. ‘Five individuals from the Muara Enim Regency Government, including the Regent, and five others from the private sector,’ Budi stated. However, the spokesperson has not yet disclosed the specific details of the case or the evidence seized by the task force, noting that the team is still conducting field investigations. The KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of the Regent and the other individuals detained during the operation.
