The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects the Regent of Muara Enim, Edison, of being involved in bribery transactions. He and his subordinates are alleged to have received bribes from the private sector.

“Regarding the alleged receipt by state officials from private parties,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists on Monday, 8 June 2026.

He added that the KPK arrested 10 people in Jakarta and South Sumatra (Sumsel). One of the individuals apprehended was Edison.

“Five people from the Muara Enim Regency Government, including the Regent. The other five are from the private sector,” said Budi.

However, Budi has not yet disclosed the construction of the case or the evidence seized by the task force team during this recent sting operation (OTT). Budi mentioned that the task force team is currently still working in the field.

“The team is still in the field; we will provide further updates on the developments,” he said.

The KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of the Muara Enim Regent and the other parties apprehended in the sting operation.

Previously, the KPK conducted its first sting operation of 2026, arresting eight people between 9–10 January 2026. These arrests concerned alleged bribery during tax inspections at the North Jakarta Medium Tax Service Office under the Directorate General of Taxes, Ministry of Finance, for the 2021–2026 period.

In a second sting operation on 19 January 2026, the KPK arrested the Mayor of Madiun, Maidi. On 20 January 2026, the anti-corruption agency announced Maidi as a suspect in alleged corruption involving extortion through project rewards, CSR funds, and other gratifications within the Madiun City Government, East Java.

On 19 January 2026, a third sting operation led to the arrest of the Regent of Pati, Sudewo. On 20 January 2026, the KPK named Sudewo a suspect in alleged extortion related to the appointment of village officials within the Pati Regency Government, Central Java.

A fourth sting operation took place on 4 February 2026, involving the Banjarmasin Medium Tax Office (KPP Madya) in South Kalimantan, related to tax restitution processes.

On 4 February 2026, the KPK also announced a fifth sting operation concerning the importation of counterfeit goods. Among those arrested was the former Director of Enforcement and Investigation at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Ministry of Finance, Rizal, who is currently serving as the Head of the West Sumatra Regional Customs Office.
