Muara Enim Regent Bribery Case: Edison and Associates Received Rp500 Million to 'Maintain Good Relations'
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed that a payment of Rp500 million was made from a private party to the Muara Enim Regency Government. The hundreds of millions of rupiah were allegedly intended to ‘maintain good relations’ between the private company and the regency administration. Muara Enim Regent, Edison, has been named a suspect by the KPK in a bribery case concerning procurement projects at the Muara Enim Regency Education and Culture Office. Alongside Edison, the KPK also named three other individuals as suspects: 2026 Education and Culture Office Secretary, Abi Nurwardani; the regent’s nephew, Adi Triyadi; and PT Millenium Solusi Abadi Marketing representative, Cory Erin Hardi. KPK Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein explained that Abi, as Secretary of the Education and Culture Office, met with Cory Erin Hardi, a marketing executive from PT MSA, on Saturday, 6 June 2026 at a hotel in Jakarta. He stated that PT MSA is a supplier of smart boards to PT MIT, which secured a procurement project at the Muara Enim Regency Education and Culture Office for the 2025 fiscal year. During the meeting, Cory handed over Rp500 million in cash to Abi, purportedly to ‘maintain the relationship’ so that cooperation with the Muara Enim Regency Government could continue smoothly in the future. Taufik stated that the receipt from the private party was suspected to be linked to previous procurements. He added that behind the payment was an intention for the private sector to maintain good relations with the local government, enabling them to win future regional projects. Edison is suspected of receiving a five per cent cut from every payment made by contractors within the Muara Enim Regency Government in South Sumatra Province. Taufik said the contractors funnelled payments into several holding accounts under other people’s names, or nominees. He added that Abi, as the controller of the accounts, subsequently distributed the deposits to several parties, including Edison.
