Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf, alias Mualem, has urged the House of Representatives (DPR RI) to approve the revision of the Aceh Government Law by August 2026 at the latest.

Mualem also requested that the addition to Aceh’s special autonomy funds (Otsus) be increased to 2.5 percent.

“If possible, before August, at least fully completed by June. At the latest in July,” said Mualem during a meeting with a delegation from the DPR RI Legislation Body (Banleg) at the Anjong Mon Mata Building in the Governor of Aceh’s Pendopo Complex, Thursday (16/4).

He assessed that accelerating the revision of the law is crucial to support post-disaster recovery as well as to speed up regional development.

According to him, the scheme for revising the Aceh Government Law and extending the Otsus funds, which has been advocated for a long time, is essentially already complete, but an additional portion of 2.5 percent is still needed to make it more optimal.

“The Legislation Body should ensure that this (Aceh Government Law Revision) is resolved as we hope, with 2.5 percent (Otsus funds). Hopefully, this will help us with the rehabilitation from the recent disaster,” he stated.

The Chairman of the DPR RI Legislation Body, Bob Hasan, assured that the revision will be completed this year, given that all Legislation Body members have agreed on the extension of Aceh’s Otsus funds.

Regarding the amount of Otsus funds, his side has already drafted that the extension remains at 2.5 percent in line with the Aceh Government’s request, but this depends on the Aceh Governor discussing it with the President.

“We have already drafted 2.5 percent. But that depends on the Governor,” said Bob.

“We hope it can be on time (for the approval of the Aceh Government Law Revision); the main point is that it will definitely be this year,” he added.

His side has also agreed that Aceh’s Otsus funds are not time-limited as long as it remains a special region.

“This is our proposal. Likewise, in the draft proposal, it is no longer for 20 years but as long as it maintains special autonomy status,” he said.
