Mualem Strongly Condemns Assault on Aceh Resident at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters
Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf, alias Mualem, has strongly condemned the assault on residents of Langsa City, Aceh, which occurred within the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Thursday (26/3) last week.
“On behalf of the Governor of Aceh and all the people of Aceh, I strongly condemn this assault,” Mualem said in a statement received in Banda Aceh on Tuesday.
The statement was issued by Mualem after visiting the victim, Faisal Amsco, who was recovering at his residence in South Jakarta, on Monday night (30/3).
The assault on Faisal occurred on Thursday (26/3) in the RPK PPA room at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters. The victim was attending a confrontation agenda with his legal representative at the time.
Mualem admitted to being disappointed because the incident happened inside a police office, which should serve as a place of protection for the public.
He assessed that the assault, allegedly carried out by hired thugs, severely undermines the sense of justice, especially since it occurred in a law enforcement institution.
“This police office is a place where people seek protection, but how could something like this happen if it wasn’t allowed,” he stated.
Mualem called on the National Police Chief to give special attention to the case, demanding that law enforcement be carried out firmly against anyone involved, including intellectual actors and rogue officers if proven.
“We hope the National Police Chief will give special attention to this case. Take firm action against the perpetrators and intellectual figures as well as rogue officers who are involved,” he said.
Mualem also warned that a lack of serious handling of the case could erode public trust, particularly among the people of Aceh, in the police institution.
In addition, he requested maximum protection for the victim and guarantees of security for witnesses during the legal process.
“We also ask Aceh figures in Jakarta to monitor this case. Incidents like this will create fear among Aceh residents abroad if not resolved,” Mualem stated.
The Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, confirmed that the assault began when Faisal, a suspect in a sexual violence crime (TPKS) case, was examined in a confrontation with the victim initialled RIS.
Budi said that during the examination, Faisal and RIS each brought their own entourages. When the two met, he said, there was an argument that led to the assault.
Budi stated that the investigators immediately separated both parties to prevent wider clashes. After being separated, Budi said the situation returned to conducive.
“From the start, we anticipated potential friction because both parties arrived with companions. The investigators immediately took firm steps by separating both parties so the situation remained under control,” he told reporters on Monday (30/3).
Budi explained that the altercation was not only due to the ongoing TPKS case but was also influenced by other issues outside this case. He mentioned that one of the assailants had another matter with the suspect FA that triggered emotions leading to violence.
As a result of the assault, Budi said that investigators from the Subdirectorate of Jatanras of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police have arrested three perpetrators to be processed according to applicable law.
“The handling of this case we ensure remains professional, proportional, and measured, while prioritising protection for the victim and maintaining public order and security,” he said.
On the other hand, despite the tension, the TPKS case examination process continued with mechanism adjustments. At that time, the victim RIS objected to facing the suspect directly, so the investigators conducted separate examinations to ensure the safety and comfort of all parties.
In this TPKS case, Faisal has been designated as a suspect since July 2025 and was once on the Most Wanted List before finally complying with the investigators’ summons.
This case was reported by the victim RIS regarding alleged sexual violence that occurred on 30 October 2022 in the Directors’ Meeting Room on the 2nd floor of the DPP Bapera Building, Central Jakarta. Several witnesses have been examined, including forensic experts, clinical psychologists, and sexual violence crime experts to strengthen the evidence.
