MU plans Chinese and Malay website
HONG KONG (AFP): Manchester United, the world's wealthiest
soccer club, will launch Chinese and Malay language websites in
March for its huge regional fan base, a report said on Sunday.
The reigning English premier league champion is hugely popular
in Hong Kong and mainland China, but many local supporters are
unable to read their English website -- Manutd.com -- while
content is limited on the team's Hong Kong supporters' site --
Manutd.com.hk.
The web portal is to use the simplified Chinese text
popularized in China and recognizable to many readers of
traditional Chinese script still used in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Manutd.com receives around 8.5 million hits a month, but with
the launch of the new site, United -- nicknamed the Red Devils --
hopes to tap into its huge global following, estimated to be in
the region of some 20 million fans.
