'MTV' to stage music summit for HIV/AIDS campaign

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Spread the message, not the virus. The message on HIV/AIDS awareness is going to be spread through music, which has phenomenal power to move people and speak to young people, according to TV channel MTV.

To commemorate World Aids Day, which fell on Dec. 1, MTV, in cooperation with Fiesta Condom and the Commission for AIDS Eradication (KPA) will stage MTV Staying Alive Music Summit 2005 on Dec. 10 at Gelanggang Soemantri Brodjonegoro, Kuningan, South Jakarta.

Bands BIP, Gigi, Netral, Seurieus and Padi, as well as Shanty, Superglad, La Nina and DJ Robot, are scheduled to perform at the event, according to a press release.

The event will provide booths that disseminate information on HIV/AIDS.

To obtain tickets, interested patrons should buy a copy of Hai magazine (edition no. 47, 48 or 49), which contains a ticket to the event.

In combination with Hai magazine and youth community organization Dance 4 Life, MTV also organized an event titled MTV Goes to School.

MTV visited three schools in Jakarta: Dwiwarna Boarding School, SMA Al Azhar and SMA Bakti Mulia 400.

MTV Goes to School invited HIV/AIDS activist Baby Jim Aditya to a discussion with young people on HIV/AIDS.
