MTs Kitchen in Cakung, East Jakarta, Catches Fire Due to Short Circuit

A fire occurred in a Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) school building in the Cakung area of East Jakarta. Firefighters extinguished the blaze.

"The object that caught fire was the school kitchen," said an officer from the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) Command Center on Thursday (11/6/2026).

The fire was reported by residents via telephone to firefighters at 11.25 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The affected MTs school is located on Jalan Dr. KRT Radjiman Widiyodiningrat, Kampung Rawa Badung RT 011 RW 007, Jatinegara Urban Village, Cakung District, East Jakarta.

The firefighting operation commenced at 11.26 WIB. A total of 8 fire engines and 40 personnel were deployed to the scene.

"The suspected cause was an electrical short circuit," the officer stated.

The extinguishing operation was declared complete at 11.45 WIB. In photos and videos received, the burnt kitchen area was visible on the upper floor.

A witness stated that the fire emerged from a fan and then spread to the roof. There were no casualties in this incident.

"Chronology: fire was spotted coming from an exhaust fan, then it spread to the ceiling, after which the reporter immediately contacted the firefighters," he said.
