MTI pushes for contactless payment ease on Jakarta MRT

PT Mitra Transaksi Indonesia (MTI), also known as YOKKE, is supporting the implementation of a contactless card payment system based on Europay, Mastercard and Visa (EMV Contactless) on the Jakarta MRT. The financial technology company, part of the Mandiri Group, is acting as one of the payment service providers in the system’s development. MTI CEO Sylvia Novieta said in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday that the implementation of EMV Contactless is part of the company’s commitment to providing secure and innovative payment services. She said the ease of transactions is expected to support the mobility of the public and international tourists while strengthening Jakarta’s connectivity with other global cities. “MTI, as a payment service provider, consistently supports Jakarta’s sustainable development as a global city,” she said. The implementation of contactless payments on the Jakarta MRT involves the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, Bank Indonesia, Bank Mandiri, Mastercard, Visa and MTI. The system is described as the first implementation of contactless credit card payments on public transport services in Indonesia. With the acceptance of ticket payments using EMV contactless credit cards at all Jakarta MRT stations, Mastercard and Visa credit card holders can use their payment cards to travel from all Jakarta MRT stations. Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the contactless transaction system is expected to strengthen modern, inclusive public transport services and support Jakarta in becoming a resilient global city. The move is expected to support Jakarta’s vision and mission of becoming a world-class global city with integrated and inclusive public transport. “So that, as a global city, Jakarta must now be on par with cities that have already implemented this, including Singapore, Tokyo, Shanghai, New York, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Sydney and so on,” said Pramono.
