Mt. Lawu's forest razed
KARANGANYAR, Central Java: Some 45 hectares of forest near the peak of Mt. Lawu have been razed by fire originating from a camp fire.
Forest rangers, working with local villagers, tried to contain the fire with little success as the strong wind helped spread the blaze.
Perhutani, the state forestry office which manages the area, has temporarily closed the path to the mountain's peak to climbers. (har/emb)
