Mt. Bromo: Safety first
Mt. Bromo: Safety first
From Republika
We took a trip to Mt. Bromo in East Java this month to enjoy the beauty of its crater. Upon arrival, we hired a jeep and horses to reach the mountain top.
However, we were worried when we saw the safety fences along the crater's rim, which existed only in certain places, while many other slopes are steep enough to pose danger to visitors.
As a national tourist destination, the Bromo zone has contributed considerable income to the regional administration and the local community through various services. For example, my family of eight spent as much as Rp 335,000 on tickets, parking fees, insurance, jeep and horse charges.
The East Java provincial government and the Tengger (Bromo) National Park management should therefore pay attention to public safety to ensure it is commensurate with the revenue earned.
