Access to global markets is considered a vital factor in driving Indonesia’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to scale up while simultaneously increasing their contribution to national exports. Amidst increasing international trade connectivity, the need for fast and reliable logistics services has become a key determinant of business competitiveness.

MSMEs currently contribute more than 60 per cent to the national economy. With Indonesia’s economic growth projected to reach 5.11 per cent in 2025, opportunities for business owners to penetrate global markets are seen as increasingly open.

However, the primary challenge is no longer limited to production capacity. MSME players still face obstacles in accessing international distribution networks and logistics services capable of supporting business expansion.

Poppy Ariani, Vice President Commercial at DHL Express Indonesia, stated that global market demand for Indonesian products continues to grow, meaning business owners need to be supported by fast, consistent, and competitive logistics access.

“Global demand continues to evolve. The key now is fast, consistent, and competitive access,” said Poppy in her statement on Tuesday (30/06/2026).

According to her, the function of logistics is no longer merely about supporting goods distribution, but has become part of a business strategy to expand markets.

This shift, Poppy noted, is evident from the increasing demand for large-volume shipments. While MSMEs were previously identified with small-scale shipments, an increasing number of business owners are now shipping larger quantities of value-added products.

Ahmad Mohamad, Senior Technical Advisor at DHL Express Indonesia, said this trend reflects the growing scale of Indonesian business trade in international markets.

“We are seeing a clear shift, from small-scale shipments towards larger volumes. This indicates that Indonesian businesses are not only successfully entering the global market but are also beginning to grow within it,” said Ahmad.
