MSMEs Minister urges large companies to foster new entrepreneurs
Such mentoring, he said, must take a business-development-oriented approach so as to create self-reliant entrepreneurs.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Maman Abdurrahman is encouraging large companies to expand entrepreneurship mentoring programmes in order to produce more new entrepreneurs and raise the national entrepreneurship ratio.
Maman said the mentoring must be carried out through a business-development-oriented approach so as to create entrepreneurs who are self-reliant.
“We at the Ministry of MSMEs are obliged to be present together to support and ensure the success of more programmes like this, so that other business groups will follow suit and produce new entrepreneurs across the country,” Maman said at the Diplomat Success Challenge (DSC) event in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to him, the more companies that mentor prospective entrepreneurs, the greater the chance of new business actors emerging who can create jobs.
He noted that every entrepreneur who successfully develops a business has the potential to absorb five to ten workers, thereby contributing to national economic growth.
Maman said the Ministry of MSMEs is currently developing the concept of Corporate Business Responsibility (CBR), which encourages companies not only to carry out corporate social responsibility (CSR) but also to play a role in creating new entrepreneurs through business mentoring and assistance.
According to him, the CBR approach differs from CSR programmes because it focuses on building the capacity of business actors so they can develop their businesses independently and sustainably.
The government is targeting the emergence of 10 million new entrepreneurs by 2029 as part of efforts to raise the national entrepreneurship ratio while broadening job creation.
Through this target, Indonesia’s entrepreneurship ratio is expected to rise from 3.35 per cent to 3.6 per cent by 2029.
