MSMEs in Disaster-Affected Areas Bounce Back, Recording 13 Million E-Commerce Transactions
Data from the Disaster Recovery Task Force (Satgas PRR) on 8 May recorded an increase in MSME transactions via e-commerce platforms reaching 13,209,182. The breakdown shows 87,746 transactions with 1,396 products in Aceh. Meanwhile, in North Sumatra, there were 9,781,946 transactions with 631 products. In West Sumatra, there were 3,339,490 transactions with 101 products.
This total reflects an increase of up to 77 per cent compared to conditions at the end of April, when MSME transactions on e-commerce platforms in the three disaster-affected regions of Sumatra only reached 7,461,422.
This achievement in increasing MSME transactions on e-commerce platforms coincides with the acceleration of economic stimulus aid distribution to support the economic lives of disaster survivors in the three affected areas.
In detail, Rp 250.48 billion out of a total of Rp 254.44 billion in economic stimulus aid has been evenly distributed to disaster survivors in Aceh. Then, Rp 53.38 billion out of a total of Rp 62.90 billion has been massively distributed to disaster survivors in North Sumatra. Meanwhile, Rp 16.83 billion out of a total of Rp 17.74 billion has been distributed to disaster survivors in West Sumatra.
Spokesperson for Satgas PRR, Amran, emphasised that the economic recovery of disaster survivors is the top priority in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Sumatra disaster. He stated that economic activities in the three affected regions are gradually recovering, in line with the restoration of economic indicators consisting of MSME recovery, distribution of People’s Business Credit (KUR), and market improvements.
“We have continuously encouraged economic growth, and economic activities are almost entirely complete,” said Amran in a press release on Sunday (10/6/2026).
This was stated by Amran during a Satgas PRR press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday (6/5/).
As a follow-up step, Amran affirmed that Satgas PRR will soon complete the repair of markets that have not yet been addressed in the three affected areas. This step is taken so that the wheels of the community’s economy in the disaster areas can fully recover.
“In West Sumatra, it is already 100 per cent (markets). Then in North Sumatra, it is already 98 per cent, and in Aceh 89 per cent. So, only a few markets are being maximised so they can be occupied as soon as possible,” said Amran.
