The empowerment of MSMEs and communities is increasingly becoming the main focus in the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies by various companies. No longer merely running social responsibility programmes, the ESG approach is now directed at creating more measurable impacts and enhancing the economic capacity of the community. PT Asuransi Jasa Indonesia (Persero), known as Asuransi Jasindo, is transforming its corporate social responsibility from a conventional approach to a structured ESG strategy. Through its ESG communication initiatives, namely the Narasemesta Jasindo, Peken Jasindo, and Satyaraga Jasindo programmes, the company has reached more than 5,000 beneficiaries across 10 programme locations and empowered 200 MSMEs in various regions of Indonesia. Corporate Secretary of Asuransi Jasindo, Brellian Gema Widayana, explained that this transformation was born from an awareness to address the complex challenges of climate change, local economic inequality, and low protection literacy in Indonesia. ‘This programme is not merely a philanthropic action, but an ESG communication architecture that transforms environmental risks and community economic vulnerabilities into opportunities for shared value creation,’ Brellian said in an official statement. The initiative is designed as a pillar of ESG communication aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), integrating environmental crisis mitigation, MSME economic empowerment, and insurance literacy enhancement into a cohesive ecosystem. Asuransi Jasindo’s ESG communication strategy is built upon three complementary main pillars. On the environmental aspect, the company addresses environmental degradation and coastal crises through the Narasemesta programme, which focuses on conservation interventions, strengthening community resilience, and advocating for a green economy. On the social aspect, the company tackles economic inequality, low financial literacy, and limited MSME access through Peken Jasindo, which serves as a platform for MSME empowerment, insurance education, and community economic independence. On the governance aspect, Asuransi Jasindo is shifting from a charity-based approach to an ESG-based one by proactively engaging stakeholders and strengthening sustainable corporate governance. Recently, Asuransi Jasindo implemented the Narasemesta and Peken Jasindo programmes in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. Through the Narasemesta programme, the company demonstrated its commitment to improving the quality of life by initiating stunting prevention efforts for children and pregnant women in Tetaf Village, South Central Timor Regency. Meanwhile, Peken Jasindo focused on strengthening access to inclusive education in Kupang under the theme ‘Katong Baku Dukung, Katong Baku Sayang’, involving 100 MSME players in a bazaar supported by the provision of 40 food stalls. Asuransi Jasindo also supported the strengthening of the Kupang MSME Sunday Market (SABOAK) ecosystem as a local creative economy centre. ‘Our vision is to position Asuransi Jasindo as a pioneering insurance company that is adaptive to social and environmental issues, through communication that prioritises transparency, risk literacy, and sustainable impact,’ said Brellian. These programmes are expected to increase ESG awareness, strengthen stakeholder engagement, generate tangible environmental impacts, drive social and economic empowerment, and build a strong corporate reputation. Going forward, Asuransi Jasindo is committed to continuously expanding the reach of this ESG programme as part of its sustainable business strategy, while strengthening collaboration with various stakeholders to realise a protection ecosystem and green economic growth in Indonesia.
