MSCI Review: Indonesian Blue Chips Seen Avoiding Weight Cuts, BRPT to Stay
Jakarta. Indonesian stocks could avoid major negative surprises from MSCI’s upcoming quarterly review, with analysts expecting several large-cap names to retain their weightings and Barito Pacific (BRPT) to remain in the MSCI Global Standard Index.
Phintraco Sekuritas said the MSCI rebalancing is scheduled for Aug. 12, 2026, local time, with changes taking effect on Aug. 31.
“However, MSCI is still maintaining its freeze on the addition of new Indonesian stocks,” Phintraco Sekuritas said in a note on Monday.
Maybank Sekuritas, meanwhile, said its Investment Specialist team expected no negative surprises for Indonesian constituents in the quarterly announcement.
“BRPT (Barito Pacific), for example, is expected to remain in the MSCI Global Standard Index, which would be a positive catalyst,” Maybank Sekuritas said.
The brokerage also expects no reduction in the weightings of large-cap stocks, which could support blue-chip names including Bank Central Asia (BBCA), Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI), Bank Mandiri (BMRI) and Astra International (ASII).
By contrast, Maybank Sekuritas expects GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (GOTO) could be removed from the MSCI Global Standard Index, based on the changes implemented by FTSE Russell in its previous review.
