MRT Suddenly Emits Smoke at Bukit Gombak Station, Passengers Evacuated
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Hundreds of passengers were evacuated from a train at Bukit Gombak MRT station on Tuesday (15/9/2026). The incident occurred after smoke was seen coming from beneath the Singaporean mass transit train.
According to The Straits Times, the incident took place at 11.40 local time. Initial inspections indicated that the smoke may have been caused by a faulty brake.
“All passengers were guided off the train by staff as a safety precaution,” said Lam Sheau Kai, President of Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT).
“There were no reports of passengers requiring medical assistance,” he added.
Lam said the train had been towed to the depot for further inspection. Train services are currently operating normally.
In a video posted to Instagram by sgfollowsall, the elevated station platform appears crowded with passengers, some of them covering their noses as smoke filled the platform. SMRT staff can be seen speaking through walkie-talkies and observing the empty, stationary train on the Jurong East side.
