MRT Monas Station Targeted to Operate by End of 2027

Jakarta (ANTARA) — PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) is targeting Monas Station and Thamrin Station under the Phase 2A CP 201 work package to be completed and fully operational by the end of 2027.

Weni Maulina, Construction Director of MRT Jakarta, said the physical construction progress of CP 201, which connects the Bundaran HI area to Monas, has now reached 92 to 93 per cent.

“For CP 201, we are already at 92 heading towards 93 per cent. God willing, we will finish it by the end of 2027 and it will be operational by the end of 2027,” Weni said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

She explained that current work is focused on completing the station interiors, including mechanical-electrical installation, architectural work, and finishing stages.

Regarding the work amid global economic dynamics and the weakening rupiah exchange rate, Weni assured that the CP 201 project budget, estimated at Rp4.1 trillion, remains intact and in line with the initial contract value.

As for on-site obstacles, she revealed that the main challenge in constructing the underground structures for this package was the relatively soft soil conditions. Nevertheless, this geological obstacle was successfully overcome through soil stabilisation engineering techniques.

Monas Station is specifically designed as an iconic station based on a cultural heritage (heritage) zone. The station is approximately 220 metres long, with the train platform reaching a depth of 15 to 18 metres underground.

“Because it is located in a heritage zone, the buildings above ground are kept low — what we call a sunken entrance that leads directly into the underground area. The ventilation and cooling towers are also semi-sunken,” she said.

To anticipate potential rainwater pooling from the sunken entrance concept, MRT Jakarta has equipped the station with a special drainage system and flood gates.

Monas Station has two entrances, namely the Grand Entrance facing directly onto the National Monument (Monas) and another entrance on National Museum Road (Jalan Museum Nasional).

The station is also fitted with a long corridor for educational and art exhibition areas, as well as a tourist information centre.
