MRT Monas Station Targeted to Operate by End of 2027

PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) is targeting the Monas Station and Thamrin Station, part of the CP 201 Phase 2A work package, to be completed and fully operational by the end of 2027. MRT Jakarta’s Director of Construction, Weni Maulina, stated that physical construction progress for CP 201, which connects the Bundaran HI area to Monas, has reached 92 to 93 per cent. Current work is focused on completing the station interiors, including mechanical-electrical installations, architectural elements, and finishing stages. Despite global economic dynamics and the weakening of the rupiah, the project’s budget ceiling, estimated at Rp4.1 trillion, remains intact and in accordance with the initial contract value. The main field challenge for the underground structure was soft soil conditions, which have been successfully overcome through soil stabilisation engineering. The Monas Station is specifically designed as an iconic station within a cultural heritage area. It spans approximately 220 metres in length with a platform depth of 15 to 18 metres below ground. Due to its heritage location, above-ground structures are kept low, featuring a sunken entrance that leads directly underground, with semi-sunken ventilation and cooling towers. To anticipate potential rainwater inundation from the sunken entrance concept, the station is equipped with a special drainage system and flood gates. The station will have two entrances: a Grand Entrance facing the National Monument and an entrance on Museum Nasional Street, along with a long corridor for educational and art exhibitions and a tourist information centre.
