MRT Jakarta targets trial run for Bundaran HI-Monas route by June 2027
PT MRT Jakarta has set a target to conduct operational trials for the MRT Phase 2A line, covering the route from Bundaran HI to Monas, by June 2027 as part of the development of mass transit services in the capital.
“We will attempt to extend operations from Bundaran HI to Monas. We target the initial trial run by June next year, in accordance with applicable procedures,” stated the President Director of MRT Jakarta, Tuhieral, during the 2026 Journalist Forum in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Tuhiyat noted that construction progress for Phase 2A continues to show positive development, particularly regarding the CP201 work package, which includes the Bundaran HI-Monas track. He added that official operations are targeted to commence in mid-2027, following the completion of all testing stages.
Meanwhile, MRT Jakarta’s Construction Director, Weni Maulina, added that the progress of civil works for the CP201 package has currently reached 92.88 per cent. She explained that ongoing works include the completion of pavements on Jalan MH Thamrin, the installation of cooling systems, and the construction of entrance areas for Monas Station.
“The physical structure of the station is already becoming visible. The current focus of work is primarily on completing surface areas and system installations,” said Weni.
Additionally, track work and electrical system installations are ongoing to support the 2027 operational target. The selection of June 2027 coincides with the 500th anniversary of Jakarta. MRT Phase 2A is a continuation of the Lebak Bulus-Bundaran HI corridor, which will gradually connect central Jakarta to Kota Tua. It is expected that the new line will enhance public transport connectivity and encourage a shift from private vehicles to mass transit.
