PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) projects that the Monas Station and Thamrin Station will be fully operational by the end of 2027. Physical construction progress on the line connecting Bundaran HI to Monas has reached a significant milestone. Director of Construction at MRT Jakarta, Weni Maulina, stated that the physical progress for CP 201 is currently between 92 and 93 per cent. The company is optimistic that the work will be completed on schedule. β€œFor CP 201, we are at 92 to 93 per cent. God willing, it will be completed by the end of 2027 and operational by the end of 2027,” Weni said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday (23/7). Weni explained that the current focus is on the interior finishing stage, which includes the installation of mechanical-electrical systems, architectural work, and final finishing. Regarding financial aspects, MRT Jakarta has confirmed that global economic dynamics and fluctuations in the Rupiah exchange rate will not disrupt the project. The budget ceiling for the CP 201 package, which has an estimated value of approximately Rp4.1 trillion, remains secure and in line with the initially agreed contract value. The underground construction has not been without its challenges. Weni noted that soft soil conditions posed a major challenge in building the underground structure in the area. However, this geological obstacle was successfully overcome through precise soil stabilisation engineering. Furthermore, to maintain smooth traffic flow on the Medan Merdeka Barat protocol road, MRT Jakarta utilised the box jacking method. This technique allows for the construction of an underground tunnel towards Jalan Museum Nasional without disrupting surface road access. He explained that Monas Station is specifically designed to integrate with the surrounding cultural heritage area. To avoid dominating the above-ground landscape, the station building is kept low with a sunken entrance concept that leads directly to the underground area. Supporting facilities such as ventilation and cooling towers are also designed in a semi-sunken manner. To anticipate the risk of flooding due to the sunken entrance design, MRT Jakarta has equipped the station with a special drainage system and flood gates to guarantee operational safety. He further explained that Monas Station will have two main entrances: a Grand Entrance facing the National Monument and another entrance on Jalan Museum Nasional. The station is also projected to become a new public space, featuring a long corridor that will function as an area for educational exhibitions, art, and a tourist information centre.
