PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) is strengthening public transport education for students through various programmes conducted in partnership with schools and the Jakarta Education Office.

Mega Indahwati Tanangsa Tarigan, Director of Operations and Maintenance at PT MRT Jakarta (Perserode), stated that this education is carried out through several initiatives, including ‘MRT Mengajar’ (MRT Teaches), internship collaborations, and ‘MRT Goes to School’.

“We have undertaken many efforts, particularly by collaborating with the Education Office. There is MRT Mengajar, internship programmes, and MRT Goes to School,” Mega said during the “Jakarta Bergerak: From School to Global City” discussion in Jakarta on Monday.

She mentioned that MRT Jakarta also maintains regular programmes such as ‘Edu Tour’ and ‘Edu Wisata’ (Educational Tourism), which serve as tools to introduce public transport to the public, including students.

Mega emphasised that students are one of the 13 groups entitled to access through the MRT Jakarta Free Service Card programme.

According to her, Jakarta’s public transport connectivity has now reached over 90 per cent, based on data from the Jakarta Transportation Agency.

Chico noted that this condition makes it increasingly easy for the public to access various modes of public transport in Jakarta.

“This means that when we leave our homes and walk less than 500 metres, we can find at least JakLingko, Mini Trans, Transjakarta, or even the LRT. This is what must become a lifestyle and a characteristic of Jakarta’s residents,” said Chico.

Based on ‘Satu Data Jakarta’ data regarding the number of public transport passengers served per day during the June 2026 period, millions of daily trips rely on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and commuter trains.

In the daily averages recorded during June 2026, the Commuter Line recorded the highest usage, reaching approximately 1.02 million passengers per day, while TransJakarta service volumes were recorded at around 727,000 passengers per day, and MRT Jakarta recorded a daily average of approximately 145,000 passengers.
