Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) is permitting passengers to drink plain water and eat dates after the Maghrib call to prayer to break their fast inside Ratangga trains or paid areas during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.

“Passengers are only permitted to break their fast with plain water and dates for a maximum of 10 minutes after the Maghrib call to prayer, should they still be inside a Ratangga train or paid area,” said PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) Corporate Secretary Division Head Rendy Primartantyo in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Rendy said passengers are not permitted to break their fast with beverages other than plain water — such as tea, coffee, syrup or fizzy drinks — nor with snacks other than dates.

Passengers are permitted to break their fast whilst inside Ratangga trains or paid areas (such as platforms or the paid concourse) once the time for breaking fast has arrived, and may continue breaking their fast in the unpaid concourse area.

The policy takes effect on Thursday, 19 February 2026, coinciding with the start of the fasting period.

In line with the Ramadan period, MRT Jakarta is introducing its #MelajuPenuhMakna (Journeying with Purpose) campaign as an invitation to imbue every journey with deeper meaning.

The programme encompasses educational content, digital activations and interactive promotions, the distribution of takjil (pre-iftar refreshments) at station areas, as well as social initiatives including communal iftar meals with orphans and persons with disabilities, the opening of public donations, and the distribution of Ramadan blessing packages.

MRT Jakarta is encouraging the public not merely to travel from one station to another, but also to move together in the spirit of sharing, compassion and togetherness during Ramadan.

Through the message “A More Meaningful Journey with MRT Jakarta”, all passengers are also invited to worship comfortably and in an orderly manner amid the dynamic mobility of urban life.

In addition, MRT Jakarta is providing a range of passenger programmes for customers to enjoy throughout the Ramadan period.
