Jakarta — PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) is permitting passengers to drink plain water and eat dates after the Maghrib call to prayer to break their fast aboard Ratangga trains or within paid areas during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.

"Passengers are only permitted to break their fast with plain water and dates for a maximum of 10 minutes after the Maghrib call to prayer, should they still be aboard Ratangga trains or within paid areas," said Corporate Secretary Division Head of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda), Rendy Primartantyo, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Rendy stated that passengers are not permitted to break their fast with beverages other than plain water — including tea, coffee, syrup, fizzy drinks — nor with snacks other than dates.

Passengers are permitted to break their fast whilst aboard Ratangga trains or within paid areas (such as platforms or the paid concourse) once the time for breaking fast has arrived, and may continue breaking their fast in the unpaid concourse area.

The policy takes effect on Thursday, 19 February 2026, coinciding with the commencement of the fasting period.

In line with the Ramadan period, MRT Jakarta has launched its #MelajuPenuhMakna (Journeying with Greater Meaning) campaign, encouraging passengers to imbue each journey with deeper significance.

The programme includes educational content, digital activations and interactive promotions, distribution of takjil (pre-iftar snacks) at station areas, as well as social initiatives such as communal iftar meals with orphans and people with disabilities, public donation drives, and the distribution of Ramadan blessing packages.

MRT Jakarta is encouraging the public not merely to travel from one station to another, but to move together in the spirit of sharing, compassion, and togetherness throughout Ramadan.

Through the message "A More Meaningful Journey with MRT Jakarta," all passengers are also invited to worship comfortably and in an orderly manner amidst the dynamic pace of urban mobility.

In addition, MRT Jakarta is providing a range of passenger programmes for customers to enjoy throughout the Ramadan period.
