MRT Jakarta Introduces Contactless Credit Card Payments, a First in Indonesia
The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has officially launched a contactless credit card payment system (EMV Contactless) for MRT Jakarta services. The system, inaugurated on Wednesday, allows users to tap in and tap out using their credit cards without the need to top up a balance. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that this innovation will further strengthen public transport services in Jakarta. Residents or tourists holding Visa and Mastercard credit cards can now easily use MRT services without relying on electronic money cards. “Today we officially launch the contactless credit card ticket payment system, known as EMV Contactless, on the MRT Jakarta. This is the first time in Indonesia that credit cards, whether Visa or Mastercard or others in the future, can be used for this purpose,” Pramono said at the Bundaran HI MRT Station in Jakarta.
