PT MRT Jakarta and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) have begun preparations to integrate Monas MRT Station with Gambir Station. The connectivity is being prepared to facilitate the transfer of MRT, KRL Commuterline, and intercity train passengers once both projects are completed.

MRT Jakarta’s Director of Construction, Weni Maulina, stated that discussions regarding the connection between the two stations have been held with KAI management. Currently, both parties are still formulating an integration concept to make intermodal transfer access more comfortable for the public.

‘Yes, so we have indeed met with KAI management to prepare or create a plan connecting Monas Station, which is on our west side, with Gambir Station, which is currently being revitalised on the east side,’ Weni said at the MRT Monas project site on Wednesday (22 July 2026).

The plan is part of the integrated transportation area development in Central Jakarta. It is hoped that MRT users alighting at Monas Station will be able to continue their journey to Gambir Station via a connecting link without having to go up to street level.

‘So, God willing, there will be a connection, a better connection later,’ Weni mentioned.

However, the design for the connection between the two stations is still being finalised. MRT Jakarta and KAI are still discussing the construction form and implementation timeline to align with the ongoing revitalisation of Gambir Station.

‘The design is still under development. So we are still discussing it with PT KAI as well,’ Weni said.

MRT Jakarta has not yet set a target time for the construction of the connecting link. However, the connection is expected to be realised after the Gambir Station revitalisation project and the construction of Monas Station are both completed.

‘The timing will probably be when they finish the revitalisation and we also finish Monas, God willing, there will be a connection later,’ he stated.
