MRT and High-Rise CCTV Integrated to Enable Real-Time Security Monitoring by Police
The Jakarta Provincial Government, in collaboration with the Metro Jaya Regional Police, is integrating CCTV networks from the MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, and various high-rise buildings in Jakarta to monitor public security and order (kamtibmas) in real time.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that in the initial phase, approximately 24,000 CCTV cameras will be connected to a single surveillance system. “Whether it is the MRT, LRT, Transjabodetabek, or Transjakarta, CCTV is now present in all corners. This includes those owned by the Metro Jaya Regional Police, which will now be supplemented by CCTV from buildings with more than four storeys,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Monday (18/05/2026).
He noted that buildings with more than four floors are required to install CCTV cameras at both the front and rear of the premises. “Because it is mandatory to install CCTV on both the front and rear views, we will integrate them together. I am confident that the coverage will expand significantly to detect incidents occurring in Jakarta,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Regional Police Chief of Metro Jaya, Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, stated that the CCTV integration will assist the police in anticipating various street crimes, such as snatch thefts and violent robberies. In addition to security, the cameras will also be used to monitor traffic flow, allowing officers to respond more swiftly to field conditions.
“This cooperation is directed towards security, order, and can also be used to monitor traffic flows within the DKI Jakarta region so that field personnel can react more quickly,” said Asep. “Through this partnership with the Jakarta Provincial Government, we will maximise the use of these CCTVs, which can certainly be used to uncover criminal activities.”
Nevertheless, Pramono ensured that access to the CCTV dashboard will not be opened to the public due to concerns regarding data privacy and public security. “Access is limited to the Jakarta Provincial Government, the Metro Jaya Regional Police, and the Head of Intelligence (Kabaintelkam). No one else will have access,” he concluded.
