Mr Eben's Son Learning to Drive at Night Falls Into a Drainage Channel

Learning to drive at night ends badly for Pak Eben’s son. The car he was driving plunged into a drainage channel in East Jakarta. The incident occurred on Friday (6 March) at around 23:02 WIB. It happened precisely on Jalan Pengayoman, Utan Kayu Utara, Matraman, East Jakarta. The car owner reported the incident to the Fire Department (Damkar). The Fire Department then evacuated the car. ‘The object being evacuated is one unit of a car belonging to Pak Eben that had fallen into the drainage channel,’ said Abdul Wahid, Head of Operational Section of the Suku Dinas Penanggulangan Kebakaran dan Penyelamatan (Gulkarmat) Jakarta Timur, as quoted by Antara, Saturday (7/3/2026). Chronology of the incident. The incident began when the owner’s son was learning to drive at the location. However the driver did not realise that on the right side of the road there was an uncovered drainage channel until the vehicle fell into the drain. ‘So, when Pak Eben’s son was learning to drive, he did not know there was an uncovered drain on the right side of the road,’ he added. The Jakarta Timur Gulkarmat officers immediately deployed two rescue units. The first unit departed at 23:03 WIB and the second followed at 23:07 WIB. The evacuation lasted less than half an hour. ‘The evacuation was completed at 23:27 WIB and the vehicle was raised back onto the carriageway,’ Abdul said. There were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. After the evacuation, the situation at the scene was reported as safe and under control.
