Home improvement retailer MR.D.I.Y. Indonesia is continuing and expanding the reach of its ‘Menginspirasi Generasi Inovator’ (Inspiring the Generation of Innovators) programme by launching a STEM Kit roadshow that will reach more than 8,600 children in Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Banyumas throughout July 2026. The programme, which coincides with National Children’s Day, is part of the company’s commitment to expanding access to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)-based learning. Through interactive and enjoyable learning experiences, children are expected not only to better understand scientific concepts but also to develop skills that will prepare them for future challenges. MR.D.I.Y. Indonesia’s President Director, Edwin Cheah, stated that National Children’s Day serves as a momentum for the company to broaden its commitment to supporting the growth and development of Indonesian children by encouraging interactive learning through hands-on activities and exploration. He noted that the ‘Menginspirasi Generasi Inovator’ programme represents the company’s effort to bring STEM learning access closer to Indonesian families, enabling children to learn through direct experiences that are enjoyable, interactive, and easily accessible. ‘By providing early access to STEM learning, we hope this initiative can cultivate curiosity, creativity, and a passion for learning that will become essential assets for nurturing Indonesia’s future STEM talent. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, and develop their potential optimally,’ Cheah said in an official statement on Thursday (23/7/2026). Clinical Psychologist and Play Therapist Hertha Christabelle Hambalie emphasised the importance of STEM-based learning for child development. She explained that STEM play activities can help develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, creativity, and self-confidence through enjoyable learning experiences. ‘Play is how children understand the world. Learning through play with STEM practices provides rich stimulation to build consistency, resilience, and self-confidence. The value presented is not just educational activity, but also a shared experience with family so that children can learn joyfully and grow to love the learning process,’ Hertha said. During its implementation in Jakarta, MR.D.I.Y. Indonesia partnered with non-profit organisation Indonesia Mengajar to bring the STEM Kit roadshow to four public spaces, including Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, the National Library, the Jakarta Library, and green open spaces such as Tebet Eco Park, reaching approximately 500 children aged 6 to 15. Similar enthusiasm was seen outside Jakarta, with the roadshow set to reach around 5,800 children across 10 schools in Bandung, 1,000 children in three schools in Banyumas Regency, and 300 children in three schools in Surabaya. Additionally, MR.D.I.Y. Indonesia collaborated with the Sriwijaya Air Group to distribute STEM Kits as special gifts to 1,000 children on flights on 23 July 2026. Hertha praised the STEM Kit learning approach designed by MR.D.I.Y. Indonesia for being tailored to children’s age and ability levels. She added that the initiative also strengthens the emotional bond between children and parents through communication, cooperation, and shared exploration. She noted that such activities greatly benefit Indonesian families by allowing children to learn while playing, sharpen their creativity, and provide parents with moments to connect more closely with their children through meaningful exploration. ‘Moreover, during the process, children learn patience, exploration, effort, and how to build commitment and consistency without giving up easily. These experiences help children develop adaptability, become more resilient, and build a sense of pride in themselves for successfully creating something through their own efforts,’ she said. The ‘Menginspirasi Generasi Inovator’ initiative was first launched in Waingapu, East Sumba, in April 2026. This step underscores MR.D.I.Y. Indonesia’s role not only as a household equipment retailer but also as a partner for Indonesian families in supporting the learning process, creativity, and growth of children. Through the MR.D.I.Y. Untuk Indonesia programme, the company continues to strengthen its contribution to education through various initiatives supporting learning at different levels. In addition to expanding STEM learning access for children, MR.D.I.Y. Indonesia also runs a Teaching Factory programme that connects vocational learning with real industry experience to enhance the competencies of students and teachers at SMKN 1 Katapang in Bandung. As a retail company close to family needs, MR.D.I.Y. Indonesia remains committed to expanding access to essential products that can create a positive impact, including supporting children’s education. ‘Looking ahead, we are wide open to collaboration opportunities with various parties so that more Indonesian children can have the chance to learn, explore, and develop their potential through STEM,’ Cheah concluded.
