MPVs and Automatic Scooters Continue to Dominate Used Vehicle Auction Transactions
Multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) and automatic scooters continue to dominate transactions in the used vehicle auction market, according to data from the first half of 2026. MPVs contributed approximately 34 per cent of total car transactions, followed by low-cost green cars (LCGC) at 24 per cent and sport utility vehicles (SUV) at 14 per cent, according to auction house JBA. In the two-wheeler category, automatic scooters accounted for 86 per cent of total motorcycle transactions.
Throughout January to June 2026, JBA Indonesia auctioned more than 150,000 units, comprising used cars and motorcycles from various brands and segments. The most frequently transacted car models included the Toyota Avanza, Toyota Kijang Innova, Daihatsu Sigra, Honda Brio, and Suzuki Carry. For motorcycles, the Honda Beat, Honda Scoopy, Honda Vario, and Honda PCX were the top models.
JBA Indonesia Chief Operating Officer Deny Gunawan explained that auction houses now function as marketplaces connecting sellers and buyers. “This is a new way to buy or sell vehicles. Previously, people had to place advertisements and wait for potential buyers. At JBA, the public can simply consign their vehicles to us,” he said. Technological advancements have also made the auction process more practical, allowing participants to view vehicle information, check auction schedules, and place bids via the website or app without needing to attend in person. Each auction event features around 800 to 1,000 vehicles, offering buyers a wide selection.
Deny emphasised that security and transparency are prioritised throughout the transaction process. Vehicles consigned to JBA are stored in areas under 24-hour surveillance, and all documents are verified before the auction begins. “People do not need to worry about consigning their vehicles. We ensure the process is safe and transparent for both sellers and buyers,” he stated. The development of various transaction channels, including auction houses, provides the public with more alternatives for buying and selling used vehicles, supported by digital services and an open process.
