MP's fugitive son surrenders in KL
THAILAND: The fugitive son of a former Thai justice minister has
surrendered to Thai embassy officials in Malaysia's capital,
ending months of speculation that he was hiding in Cambodia, the
foreign ministry said on Thursday.
Duangchalerm Yoobamrung, son of prominent politician Chalerm
Yoobamrung, has been on the run since being sought in connection
with the execution-style shooting in October of a policeman at a
trendy bar in the heart of Bangkok's Ratchadapisek entertainment
area.
"Duangchalerm, his brother Art-han and his uncle Thalerng met
the Thai ambassador in Kuala Lumpur...this morning to express his
willingness to fight the case in Thailand," Thai foreign ministry
spokesman Rathakit Manathai told a news conference.
Duangchalerm was charged in absentia by Thai police with
shooting a policeman in the head at point blank range while other
men held down the victim. --Reuters
