MPR's Four Pillars Quiz Competition lawsuit first hearing set for next Tuesday
The first hearing regarding the lawsuit over the controversy of the MPR’s Four Pillars Quiz Competition in West Kalimantan is set to take place. The initial court session will be held next Tuesday. ‘Tuesday, 2 June 2026,’ said Central Jakarta District Court spokesperson Sunoto to reporters on Sunday (31 May 2026). Previously, lawyer David Tobing sued the MPR, two judges, and the master of ceremony (MC) of the Four Pillars Quiz Competition in West Kalimantan following public criticism. The plaintiff alleged the defendants committed unlawful acts causing harm to several parties. ‘Yes, the judges and moderator acted improperly, so as a citizen I have the right to correct this through a lawsuit at the Central Jakarta District Court with Registration Code: JKT.PST-12052026HYC dated 12 May 2026,’ David stated in his remarks on Wednesday (13 May 2026). David argued the defendants violated Article 1365 of the Indonesian Civil Code (KUHPerdata), claiming the judges and MC were careless and unprofessional. ‘Any unlawful act causing harm to another obligates the person responsible to compensate for the damage,’ David said. ‘It is clear the judges and MC were careless and unprofessional, leading to injustice in the quiz competition, thus deserving punishment by the court,’ he added. In his lawsuit, David accused the defendants of unlawful acts and sought for MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani to dismiss judges Dyastasita and Indri Wahyuni dishonourably. ‘Order Defendant I (H. Ahmad Muzani as Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly) to dismiss Defendants II (Dyastasita Widya Budi, S.Sos.) and III (Indri Wahyuni, S.I.P., M.A.) dishonourably from their positions at the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia,’ David said. ‘Order Defendant IV (Shindy Luthfiana) to be barred from hosting official state events at regional, central, or national levels,’ he added. Additionally, David demanded the two judges issue public apologies. The defendants are required to cover all legal costs. ‘Order Defendants II (Dyastasita Widya Budi, S.Sos.), III (Indri Wahyuni, S.I.P., M.A.) and IV (Shindy Luthfiana) to apologise in three national print newspapers, half-page size. Order all defendants to bear the full legal costs,’ he said. When asked for comment, MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani stated his office would review the lawsuit. ‘I have not yet heard about it. We will look at the lawsuit details and the core issues,’ Muzani said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (13 May).
